Find out what the #1 step to taking action is!
Could it be true? Just 1 step to taking action? Not the top 7 steps to taking action?
Yes!
Do you know why?
Because if it’s not easy, doable, and something that we can manage, then most likely it’ll end up on the back burner or at the bottom of the “to do” list.
Can you relate?
So, the #1 step to taking action is taken directly from Nike’s core branding message, “Just Do It!”
It really is as simple as that…just do it.
We could drag this out to have oodles of steps, strategies, and systems explaining all the whys and wherefores…but honestly, do you really need that? For myself, I already know “what” to do, it’s really about putting one foot in front of the other and implementing.
Does it mean that it’s “easy?” No! But not much in life that is worthwhile and invigorating is. Sometimes just accepting that fact makes it more manageable.
One of the biggest problems that I see with solopreneurs, including myself, is staying in the mental state. This shows up by either taking one course or certification after another or by reading and researching a topic or an idea without following up with action steps.
Taking in other people’s content can become addicting.
Feelings like “I’m not good enough,” “My idea been done before,” and “If I just learn one more thing, I’ll be ready” are all too common.
I think it’s a trap!
Somehow we believe this internal chatter and allow progress to halt, and success to stagnate. It’s almost like business momentum rigor mortis. If we aren’t moving forward, we really are slowly dying.
So, how can you “just do it?” Think about:
- What do you have on your docket that you’d love to knock off?
- What’s holding you back?
- What excuses can you squash?
- How can you move past the fear?
I am a big believer in putting pen to paper. For as much as I’m online for the majority of my day, there is something extra that happens during old-school journaling.
Take some time to answer the above questions to see if you can recognize a pattern or root cause of why you’re not taking action. When it’s right in front of us, in our own handwriting, we can name it, respect it, and move on.
The “moving on” part is key.
Please resist the temptation to just create one more exercise for mind fulfillment. Back it up with an action plan — one step at a time, but…
M * O * V * E!
Wishing you big luck in following this #1 step to taking action. I’d love to hear how you’ve implemented it. Let me know in the comments below.
