Making Space Materially And Energetically

blog energetic ties letting go making space minimalism tidying up

As we're closing out this year and moreover ringing in a new decade, it's the perfect time to evaluate what's really needed. This applies to physical/material things, as well as emotional/energetic ties.

Let’s take a look at how making space materially and energetically will pave the way to happiness.

Have a Pitch Party!

Time to get the extra-strength garbage bags lined up to rid your space of anything with an old expiration date.

This includes things from your:

Freezer/fridge

You know, those unmarked bags of frozen bananas that you had the best intentions to use for smoothies? Time to go!

Pantry (including outdated spices)

Chuck the dried and faded!

I love to cook and bake. Since I am not preparing for a large family, I find purchasing spices in the 1 oz. jar size works great to keep seasonings at their optimal brightness & freshness. My favorite spice companies are Simply Organic and Penzey’s.

Bath & Beauty Products

Ladies, even if your make-up doesn’t have a date stamp, rest assured unless you purchased the item within 6 – 12 months, there's a good chance that it’s ready for the garbage. Old make-up can be a harbor house for bacteria…yuck! For more info on the subject, check out what Women’s Health has to say.

Home Goods

Do you have a couple of mugs with chips? Hand towels fraying? Why not keep the best of the best and donate the rest? Plus, if you get a move on, you could still make a donation at your local Goodwill. Remember to get a receipt so you could use it for a tax write-off – win, win!

Closets

Keeping things 2 sizes smaller than you really are for when you lose weight? Have socks with holes in the heels or a sweatshirt with a salad dressing stain? Of course, if things can be used and are in good condition, put those in the “salvo pile” with your home goods. But otherwise – Toss, toss, toss! You do not need to be taking up space or putting the vibe out there that you are “not good enough.”

Books/Magazines

Cookbooks from the 90s? Outdated magazines – you know the ones you have piled up all neatly that you keep vacuuming around? Yeah, those – recycle them or better yet, bring them to your local doctor or chiropractor’s office to see if they would like them for their waiting room.

Your Digital Environment

Let’s get personal – your inbox!

Time to sort, file, and trash! If you still have emails from months ago that you intended on “getting to” it might be time to face the fact that it’s probably not going to happen! For what you truly can’t let go of, I suggest creating folders (in alphabetical order) clearly labeled and at least getting them out of your daily view.

Also, my advice is to sort your inbox by the “From” field. If you start to see a repetitive pattern from a certain company or individual that you have not opened, it might be time to unsubscribe from them. If you found relevant value from their content, you would’ve consumed it, acted on it, or at the very least filed it.

Unroll Me is a super, free service to help manage your inbox.

Don’t forget to empty your trash (email and computer) on a regular basis, as well as clear out any spam or promotions folders in your inbox.

Reconsider Your Subscriptions

With all the tech tools out there like Acuity, Canva, Adobe, DropBox, Designrr, LeadPages, etc. the end of the year is the perfect time to re-evaluate if you really need every one of those subscription-based products. If the answer is still yes, even after you have gone through your pro’s and con’s list, then consider adjusting your membership level, if possible (to save some dough moving forward.)

Subscriptions can apply towards gym memberships that you possibly haven’t frequented in months, to outdated domains that are on auto-renew.

If you don't utilize what you're paying for on a regular basis, now is the time to make adjustments.

Clear up your energy connections!

Do you have unkept promises? A loan you still owe a friend or family member? A conversation that you’ve been meaning to have with your partner? These “cobwebs” can take up a tremendous amount of energy. Why rent space to them?

Make a list of who you need to settle things up with financially or emotionally. Set a goal for yourself to make that call or mail that check. Remember, be easy with yourself if there are some biggies that you have been avoiding. You can do it!

Facebook “Friends”

I truly believe that even who we choose to accept as a facebook friend contributes to our energetic mandala. One year, I actually took a week to manually unfriend anyone that I hadn’t personally met or shared something of value with. It was a process! I deleted almost 1,000 people from my personal friend list. In the end, there was a sense of relief and satisfaction.

When your space is clean and clear, your mind and energy fields are as well.

You are affirming to yourself and the Universe – I have cleared out the old and what doesn't serve my highest self. I am open to new and fresh goodness. And so it is.

Wishing you peace and clarity as you tidy making space materially and energetically.

Until next time…breathe joy,
Kc
